Established in 1997 by the late Smt. Indrani Ganguly, Pathchala is an NGO based out of Kolkata, India, dedicated to helping the underprivileged children, primarily from the streets and from the areas marked as red-light zones. Pathchala has been working towards the educational, social and emotional needs of children from under-privileged and poverty-stricken families of the Kalighat region in Kolkata for the past 25 years. We aspire to propagate knowledge, awareness and empowerment for a holistic development of the youth and help them reintegrate into society. Our goal is to nurture, inspire and help the children overcome their various psychological issues as well as provide tuition for their day-to-day school activities. The desired outcome of our efforts is to witness them become self-sufficient and earn a decent livelihood. Currently, we have several success stories and are providing support to more than sixty children.
Our mission is to give direction to the underprivileged children by nurturing and inspiring them to become the best versions of themselves, as a result, making them successful and responsible citizens of the society.
Pathchala envisions to shape the lives of our school children and help them understand their basic rights in society. Pathchala has been working for the welfare of these children and their families through its intensive programs. While education is at the core, child welfare, nutrition and health are also important aspects to ensure a holistic development that is community-based and sustainable, thereby enhancing the dignity and quality of lives.
Pathchala has a history of more than 25 years of activity. Below is an old document by one of our founding members, the Late Smt. Indrani Ganguly
Carrying forward the visions of The Late Smt. Indrani Ganguly, her daughter, Mrs. Rukmini Paul has now assumed the role of President. She is supported competently by Mrs. Indrani Chattopadhyay, Secretary and Mrs. Smita Chatterjee, Treasurer. Currently, several important projects are underway.
Members of the previous Board like Mrs. Krishna Gupta, Mrs. Reena Chatterjee and Mrs. Banshari Saha are still actively contributing towards the goals and mission of Pathchala. Their experience and passion are invaluable to our team. Furthermore, with the resolute support of the other society members, we are in the process of creating an effective environment for holistic growth and prosperity of our children.
