Who we are
Established in 1997 by the late Smt. Indrani Ganguly, Pathchala is an NGO based out of Kolkata, India, dedicated to helping the underprivileged children, primarily from the streets and from the areas marked as red-light zones. Pathchala has been tirelessly working towards the educational, social and emotional needs of children from under-privileged and poverty-stricken families of the Kalighat region in Kolkata for the past 25 years. We aspire to propagate knowledge, awareness and empowerment for a holistic development of the youth and help them reintegrate into society. Our goal is to nurture, inspire and help the children overcome their various psychological issues as well as provide tuition for their day-to-day school activities. The desired outcome of our efforts is to witness them become self-sufficient and earn a decent livelihood. Currently, we have several success stories and are providing support to more than sixty children.
Furthermore, we are looking at a holistic approach that includes educating the parents, especially the mothers, and influencing them to become more involved with the direct empowerment of their children. We are also motivating the parents to earn a better living. This will encompass the social and emotional needs of all such children and their families in addition to bringing comprehension and communication into their lives to make it more meaningful and progressive. Pathchala aspires to expand its influence expeditiously and is at present keen to extend utmost help to the underprivileged people of our society.
