Education is a fundamental right for every child, yet many underprivileged children still lack access to quality education. At our organization, we are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing educational opportunities to those who need it the most. Our mission is to empower underprivileged children through education. We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential, regardless of their socio-economic background. We aim to provide comprehensive support, including access to schools, educational materials, and mentorship programs.
Education is a powerful tool that can transform lives. It opens doors to better job opportunities, improves health outcomes, and fosters a sense of self-worth and dignity. For underprivileged children, education can be the key to breaking free from the cycle of poverty and building a brighter future.
Early Childhood Development: We recognize the importance of early childhood education in laying the foundation for lifelong learning. Our early education programs provide young children with a stimulating learning environment, focusing on cognitive, social and emotional development. These programs include preschool education, play-based learning and parental involvement initiatives. Since 1997, we have been guiding children between Nursery and Class 4 with our Early Childhood Development Program in Greek Church, Kalighat. This includes providing daily nutritional supplements, stationery supplements, looking into everyday school homework and necessary counselling for any domestic challenges. In this program we are supporting around 25 children with 2 school teachers, Anita Paswan and Subhra Sarkar, who supervise the daily activities.
Senior School Tutoring: this program provides additional academic support to help children between Classes 5 and 10 succeed in their studies. The focus is also on career progression and providing necessary counselling for any domestic problems or suicidal tendencies. Our experienced teachers who have been long associated with Pathchala and know all about the daily family struggles of the children pose as a pillar of strength for these children. Currently we have around 45 students attending this program. Our teachers Lokhhi Sarkar and Arpita Chatterjee, old Board members like Smt. Reena Chatterjee, Smt. Smita Chatterjee, and volunteer tutors including past students like Ayesha Paswan, Sourav Paswan, Roshan Shah and Rohan Shah, work with the present students to improve their skills in subjects like math, science, and language. Daily nutritional supplements and stationery supplements form a part of this program since we believe this is vital for the children to maintain high spirits and work hard.
Psychological support/Mentorship and Life Skills: We focus on mental health as a very important factor for a students success in their studies. Some of these children have gone through experiences that have a negative impact on their self-confidence and self worth. We help them overcome these feelings by providing advise and moral support. Beyond academics, we focus on holistic development by providing mentorship and life skills training. This includes leadership development, career counseling, and workshops on health and hygiene. We cultivate leadership qualities through meaningful exposure and guidance. Regular interactive sessions are conducted to instill the values of model citizens. Patriotism and social responsibilities and taught through story telling classes and other serviceable activities.
Digital Learning: In today’s digital age, access to technology is crucial. We provide digital learning resources, including computers and internet access, to help bridge the digital divide and ensure children can continue learning important software skills. We have received two computers as donation from DTDC and they are now installed in our school. We regularly conduct computer classes with the help of these computers to help students understand the technology and excel in their in computer exams.
School collaborations: We partner with local schools and communities to ensure children have access to quality education. This includes interactive programs with other schools of Kolkata like South Point School, Mahadevi Birla World Academy and Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar. These interactions serve a great importance of knowledge sharing and learning opportunities. Furthermore, Pathchala collaborates with several rotary clubs like Inner Wheel Club of Kolkata New Gen, Inner Wheel Club of Auckland Square and Rotary Club of Sonarpur, where we receive much needed donation in the form of essential learning materials and nutritional meals for the children.
Scholarship Programs: To support higher education, we offer scholarships to deserving students. These scholarships are in partnership with local Rotary Clubs. It covers a part of the financial means required to pay tuition fees and essential study materials, thereby allowing students to focus on their studies without financial burdens.
