Every child deserves access to quality healthcare. Yet the urban slum dwellers of Kalighat, who Pathchala supports on a day-to-day basis, are mostly a migrated population for whom livelihood challenges are overwhelming and healthcare lies at the bottom of the pyramid and lack access to basic healthcare. This lack of access can lead to preventable illnesses, chronic diseases, and even death. We aspire to bridge this gap by providing healthcare services to underprivileged children, ensuring they receive the medical attention and care they need regardless of their socio-economic background. Our comprehensive and community-centric healthcare programs take primary healthcare services to the doorsteps of these under-served communities following a two-pronged approach of providing curative as well as preventive services, addressing the gaps in availability, accessibility and affordability of healthcare ensuring they have the opportunity to grow, thrive, and lead healthy lives

Why It Matters

We aspire to deliver vital healthcare services to the underprivileged children and their families by focusing on prevention and education. We aim to eliminate health disparities by providing routine medical check-ups, interactive health education sessions. Additionally we extend our support for healthcare to vulnerable people in society of all ages and gender.

Our Programs

Preventive care is at the heart of our efforts to promote health and well-being within the community. We conduct routine health check-ups to identify and address potential health issues early, ensuring timely intervention.

For example, vision care is a key focus, with dedicated eye care days organized to provide essential services and education on maintaining healthy eyesight, particularly for underserved communities.

In addition, we host regular blood donation drives to foster awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage active community participation. These initiatives not only save lives but also inspire a spirit of service and responsibility among individuals. Together, these efforts aim to build a healthier, more compassionate society.

Health education is a fundamental part of our mission to empower communities with knowledge and tools for better living. We conduct comprehensive health workshops that cover essential topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention. Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, we also organize mental health awareness and support programs to reduce stigma and provide guidance on emotional health. For adolescents, we prioritize sexual and reproductive health education, including menstrual hygiene drives where we distribute sanitary napkins to adolescent girls and their families, fostering awareness and ensuring access to basic hygiene products.

In addition, we focus on women’s health and hygiene, promoting early prevention of diseases through targeted education and resources. To support these efforts, we provide educational materials and resources for children, parents, and teachers, creating a ripple effect of knowledge across the community. Through our School Health Initiatives, we collaborate with registered doctors to conduct regular health check-ups and health education programs, ensuring a healthier school environment and empowering young minds with the foundation for lifelong wellness.

Nutrition is a cornerstone of our commitment to the well-being and success of our students. At Pathchala, we provide nutritious meals to ensure children have the energy and focus needed to excel academically. Guided by the expertise of a qualified nutritionist, we conduct nutritional assessments and develop tailored nutrition programs to combat malnutrition and promote healthy growth and development. Through these efforts, we aim to instill lifelong habits of balanced eating and wellness.

In addition to our regular nutrition programs, we organize several donation drives sponsored by our generous patrons. These drives support our efforts to provide nutritious food and educational resources to the children. If you are interested in being a part of these initiatives or wish to help organize upcoming events, please visit our events page to learn more and get involved.

To make these initiatives even more impactful, we welcome patrons to celebrate their special days with our students by contributing to our nutrition programs. Your involvement can bring joy to the children while supporting their health and education. If you’d like to celebrate your special day with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Success Stories

Covid-19 awareness program:
During the Covid-19 pandemic, children of Pathchala distributed masks to all and sundry during the celebrations of Durga Puja in Kolkata. Kolkata was still recovering from the aftermath of the pandemic and our city was allowed to celebrate the auspicious days following the Covid-19 safety protocol of wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. It was a successful activity where the children stepped out of their zone of comfort and urged people in the area including the local shop owners, homeless people and revellers old and young to wear masks during the festive season of Durga Puja. They empahsized the severity of the Covid-19 infection on elderly people and explained the importance of wearing a mask and abiding by the Corona safety measures during these times. The initiative was greatly appreciated by the locality.
